RFCI on BetaNYC’s 2014-2015 Diversity and Desires Report

Last week, we launched a campaign to broaden BetaNYC’s leadership. (Note – applications are open till Sunday night.)

This week, we take another step into collaborative organizational goal setting. As Noel said at Personal Democracy forum, “to be a community of the people, we need all the people!

For the past few months, BetaNYC’s board (Noel, Chris, and Ariel) has wondered how reflective is BetaNYC against NYC’s demographics. From our five years of existence, who are our current members? Is it where we want to be? What insights can we generate by looking at the City’s details? Can we use demographic research to better frame our ability to prototype tools?

Through this research process, we discovered key insights into our lives, our neighbor’s lives, and how to potential service them!

Today, BetaNYC’s is launching an request for community input (RFCI) on its 2014-2015 diversity and desires report. In part funded by Code for America’s Brigade program, BetaNYC has taken a critical view of itself, the City around us, and City’s own technology and design ecosystem. We are challenging ourselves to build a civic maker community that is representative of the city itself.

For the next week, we are asking our friends, family, and neighbors help us think about our language, narrative, and goals. We will close comments down at the same time we close applications for BetaNYC’s leadership. < http://bit.ly/betanyc-diversity >
