We are thrilled to announce the launch of Citygram.NYC, a notification platform that works with New York City’s Open Data. Citygram allows you to subscribe to events in Open Data sets that happen near you. You can choose to receive daily SMS updates, or a weekly email digest.

We are launching Citygram.nyc with two location-specific datasets: 311 Service Requests, and NYPD Vehicle Collisions. We will be adding more datasets soon. Citygram can work with virtually any data source that has  location and time information associated with a record.

Citygram is a project developed by Code for America’s 2014 Fellowship teams for the cities of Lexington, KY and Charlotte, NC. BetaNYC is proud to be among the first to fork Citygram, allowing New Yorkers to get relevant updates from NYC’s Open Datasets.

Check it out!  We’d love to hear your feedback via GitHub’s issue cue. (Be advised, if you subscribe to SMS, we recommend the 1/10 mile radius, you’ll be getting a separate SMS for each incident!

Special thanks for Volkan Unsal and Jeffrey Katz for assistance in standing this up at BetaNYC’s hacknights!
