As BetaNYC moves into the fall and begins to look ahead to the 2025 edition of Open Data Week, we are excited to welcome a new Civic Innovation Lab Manager and Junior Associates! Andrew, our new Civic Innovation Lab Manager, will support the work of our current Lab team on our community-based Research and Data Request (RADAR) service. In addition to learning about New York City government, history, and open data, our new Junior Associates, Kate and Giuseppe, will contribute to BetaNYC’s Mapping for Equity (M4E) and Open Street Maps (OSM) projects. Get to know our new team members below!
Andrew Kittredge (he/him) – Civic Innovation Lab Manager
Andrew holds a Master of Science in Geoinformatics from Hunter College. There, he worked as a research assistant on two NASA-funded projects to apply the science of urban heat to further environmental justice in New York City. Andrew’s commitment to civic tech was borne from his reliance on open data in his education and research work. He particularly enjoys combining his interests with teaching and has taught snowboarding, rock climbing, bike repair, and most recently GIS and statistics. In addition to managing BetaNYC’s Civic Innovation Lab, he is an adjunct lecturer of Urban Data Analysis in the Hunter College Department of Urban Policy and Planning.
Giuseppe Romano (he/him) – Junior Associate
Hello, my name is Giuseppe Romano. My pronouns are he/him. I am currently attending Fordham University where I am pursuing my Master’s degree in Social Work. As a junior associate, I am looking forward to expanding my experience in the field of social work by working in the macro field and becoming a more well-rounded professional for my future. One of my favorite things to do is to go to the gym with my friends. One fun fact about me is that I have a pet gecko.
Kate Irvin (she/her) – Junior Associate
Hi! My name is Kate and I use she/her pronouns. I am currently pursuing a Masters of Social Work at Fordham University. I love anything outdoors and have recently moved near Central Park so I’ve enjoyed exploring the park lately! I am particularly interested in the intersection of social work and technology and looking forward to learning more about opportunities in this area. A fun fact about me is that I love learning about art history, which makes NYC a great city to live in, with its many museums!
