Strengthen Democracy Through Public Interest Tech!

BetaNYC is a public-interest tech nonprofit that believes in democracy. Our work pioneered NYC’s Open Data Law and helped shape the civic tech community we cherish today.

Since 2008, we’ve trained over 10,000 New Yorkers in open data and mentored 91 Civic Innovation Fellows—empowering communities with the tools to engage with government and advocate for change. Annually, over 5,000 attend NYC’s Open Data Festival, which we co-produce with the City’s Open Data Team.

As of Nov 24, 2025, here’s how we made an impact!!!

  • Our weekly newsletter now has over 5,300 subscribers.
  • 8,940 people attend one of our 44 classes.
  • We hosted 12 mapping events in ALL five Boroughs: 682 public realm amenities, 2,942 feet of paths, and 49,239 square feet of community space.
  • Our Lab addressed 44 research or data assistance requests.

We believe in an inclusive democracy, and no one is above the law!

Your donation helps sustain this mission!

Your support funds our weekly public-interest tech newsletter, our open data and civic mapping classes, and other public programs that strengthen NYC’s civic tech ecosystem, including Open Data Week and NYC School of Data.
