For Open Streets in NYC to be a success, the NYC’s Department of Transportation depends on community partners to staff and schedule volunteers. These volunteers move barriers twice a day. Sometimes they perform mid-day shifts and repair them. Additionally, community partners help activate open streets by coordinating various community activities like artistic performances, food drives, community clean ups, events for children, open culture events, community cultural events, and extend open space for local businesses to operate.
This OpenStreetsNYC Toolkit helps community partners manage the logistics of volunteers, time, and communication.
