About
NYC School of Data is a community-driven conference held annually in March that brings together New Yorkers around open data, civic technology, and service design. Since 2010, BetaNYC has organized an annual community conference. Sometimes it has been an “unconference” or a community hackathon, and at other times, a one-day program of 30 conference sessions. Through the years, we have held space for NYC’s technology, government, and civics to intersect.
At NYC School of Data, we see data as the cornerstone of the digital century. We cannot talk about society, government, or technology without discussing the ramifications of how data is used to manage, maintain, surveil, or legislate. NYC School of Data empowers attendees to improve their lives and neighborhoods through workshops, panels, demos, and networking.
Next year will mark our TENTH School of Data conference, with a possible day-two unconference! Our 2026 call for proposals is now open, and we’re seeking sessions to build next year’s program.
This year, we’re excited to expand opportunities for people working on digital equity, smart cities, and artificial intelligence. If you use open data on these topics, we would like to hear your event ideas!
