Donate & Become a BetaBuilder Today

A group of eleven smiling BetaNYC volunteers in bright blue BetaNYC T-shirts pose closely together indoors at CityCamp NYC, standing in front of a blue BetaNYC banner with warm string lights glowing in the background.

We build. We respond. We engage. Build with BetaNYC.

We build toward four freedoms that belong to every New Yorker: the freedom to connect, the freedom to learn, the freedom to innovate, and the freedom to collaborate. Internet access as a prerequisite to civic life. Data literacy as public infrastructure. Technology built with communities, not for them. A government you can actually participate in.

BetaBuilders sustains BetaNYC’s work — shoulder to shoulder.

Democracy is not given. It is built.

We build on Lenapehoking — the homeland of the Lenape, displaced over four centuries of settler colonialism and still its rightful stewards — and on a city raised by enslaved and indentured hands. We hold that history honestly. And we hold this alongside it: the freedoms New York does have were built by the people it tried to leave out. (Read our full history and land acknowledgment.)

Juan Rodriguez, a free man of African and Portuguese descent, became the city’s first non-Native resident in 1613 through dialogue and trade. The immigrant women of the 1911 Triangle Shirtwaist fire built our labor laws. The Young Lords and the Stonewall generation built rights withheld from Latino, Black, immigrant, and queer New Yorkers.

They built with the tools of their time. We build with ours — civic design, technology, and data. You’re not giving a donation. You are building civic infrastructure.

Why monthly?

Building never finishes. The newsletter goes out every week. The classes run all year. The maps get made one borough at a time. A monthly gift is how the building keeps going — without you having to think about it again.
