Friends! We’re really excited to partner with the NYC Open Data Team and the Data Through Design collective to launch a unified platform to gather ideas for 2020. For our next community conference, we’re looking for transformative session proposals that will inspire our next decade of work using technology, data, and design for the public good.
While the NYC School of Data is oriented around data, it is rooted in improving our communities. This year, we are working harder than ever to make an inclusive conference. We encourage all groups & individuals who are using technology, data, and design to submit a session idea — wither it be a panel, workshop, class, talk, or project — stand up and represent!
We are really looking forward to presentations around:
Please suggest a session by Friday, 13 December 2019!!
Note, NYC School of Data conference welcomes and encourages participation by everyone. It doesn‘t matter how you identify yourself or how others perceive you: we welcome you.
We welcome contributions from everyone as long as they interact constructively with our community, including, but not limited to people of varied age, culture, ethnicity, gender, gender-identity, language, race, sexual orientation, geographical location and religious views. (Thank you Mozfest for giving us these words to use.)
As we are working with NYC Open Data Team and Data Though Design, there is a broader call for ideas. Feel free to use the following text to inspire you to suggest a session idea.
Are you an artist? Civic hacker? Teacher? Data scientist? Government wonk? NYC expert? Someone passionate about open data for the public good? Join us in building the 4th Annual Open Data Week festival, running from February 28 through March 7, 2020 across the five boroughs (and online!).
The festival will begin with the opening of the Data Through Design art exhibition on Friday, February 28, and conclude with the NYC School of Data community conference on Saturday, March 7. In between, there will be a week of events, workshops, meetups, hackathons, and more.
Have an idea for NYC School of Data, Open Data Week, or Data Through Design? We’re looking for creative submissions – panels, workshops, demos, art installations, tours – whatever excites you about open data. You can find more information and a submission form at nyc.gov/opendataweek. If you need some inspiration, look at last year’s festival, which gathered over 3,000 New Yorkers at nearly 50 events.
Submissions are due by Friday, December 13, via this form. If you have questions read our FAQ, join a webinar, or send us an email.
Open Data Week is organized and produced by NYC Open Data, BetaNYC, and the Data Through Design collective. You can help us spread the word about Open Data Week by using the #opendataweek hashtag.
Thank you,
The NYC Open Data Week 2020 Team
